Reported Reason Matt Riddle Was Written Off WWE Raw For Extended Absence

By Sondra Ruth. Published 13th December 2022.
Solo Sikoa Matt Riddle

Last week, Matt Riddle teamed with Kevin Owens to take on The Usos in an attempt to become the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions. Riddle was scheduled to team with Elias on the show, but The Bloodline revealed at the beginning of WWE Raw that they’d attacked Elias prior to the bout, rendering him unable to compete.

The Usos were victorious and retained their titles, but The Bloodline weren’t content to let the victory stand on its own. Instead, they launched an attack after the match to do further damage, and after Kevin Owens ran The Usos and Sami Zayn out of the arena with a chair, Solo Sikoa focused his attention on Riddle. Sikoa delivered a beatdown that included a Samoan Spike to the former United States Champion, and Riddle was stretchered out of the arena after the attack.

It was later reported on WWE‘s social media that the former UFC star would be out of action for six weeks, meaning he’ll miss the rest of 2022.

A New Report Reveals That Matt Riddle Failed A Drug Test And Will Undergo Rehab

Now, a new report from Cassidy Haynes of Bodyslam.net sheds light on the real reason that Matt Riddle is taking time away from the squared circle.

The report begins by recalling the time Matt Riddle’s planned bout with Seth Rollins at WWE SummerSlam was moved to Clash at the Castle. At the time, it was reported that “creative adjustments” led to the change, but sources told Haynes that the actual reason was that Riddle failed a drug test at that time. Haynes was also told that if the star failed a second drug test, it would be a “rehab or fired” situation, similar to what the company has mandated for Jeff Hardy in the past.

Continuing, the report states that Matt Riddle has indeed failed another drug test and will undergo a rehab treatment program. According to Haynes, the belief within the company is that he’s already begun treatment or will be entering soon as most treatment programs take 30 days, and he would need to complete the program before his WWE return in six weeks.

While the exact nature of his failed drug test hasn’t been confirmed, the report does note that WWE no longer tests for marijuana use.
