Reason Confirmed For WWE Clash Of Champions Absences

Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax

Prior to WWE Clash of Champions, Inside the Ropes reported changes to previously announced matches necessitated by the unforseen absence of WWE Superstars Nikki Cross, Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax. Now, Dave Meltzer has confrimed the reason for all three missing the show.

According to the head of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter on the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Radio, all three women were absent from the pay-per-view event due to the COVID-19 situation which has hit WWE and NXT hard in recent weeks.

However, at least two of the three women mentioned were not thought to have actually contracted the virus.

Dave Meltzer said that he knew this for a fact and instead were kept off of television as a precaution as they had all been in contact with people suspected to be currently infected.

It is worth repeating that at least two of the three women have not tested positive.

WWE knew before their Friday Night SmackDown that Nikki Cross would not be able to make her WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship Match with Bayley, even though they still promoted the bout on Talking Smack. Asuka replaced the Scot at WWE Clash of Champions.

Nia Jax caused a stir on Twitter after her truancy was announced on the WWE Clash of Champions KickOff Show. Following the announcement that her, Shayna Baszler and Nikki Cross were not medically cleared to compete, she Tweeted the following:

One half of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions then sent the rumour mill into overdrive with this mischevious Tweet:

There is no word on when the trio are expected back on WWE television, but it will not be for a couple of weeks as they are now required to isolate for fourteen days. Once Baszler and Jax do return, the planned WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Match with The Riott Squad will take place.

Everyone at Inside the Ropes wishes all three a speedy recovery.
