Reason Behind Tamina’s Push Reportedly Revealed

Tamina and Natalya

On the latest episode of SmackDown, Tamina and Natalya defeated Nia Jax and Shayna Bayszler to become the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, marking the first time Tamina has held a major championship in the company.

Discussing the win on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that Tamina received the push after 11 years in the company because of the positive reaction she received from the audience at WrestleMania 37 last month.

“Tamina’s push came because the fans started chanting her name at WrestleMania, the one night, or the two nights that you actually have fans, and they [WWE] went with it. That was one of the stories at WrestleMania[…]the crowd got behind her and the decision was made [to push her].”

During the event, Tamina and Natalya outlasted four other teams on Night One to earn their shot at the gold. However, Baszler and Jax proved too strong the following night, retaining the titles when Natalya passed out in Baszler’s dreaded Kirifuda Clutch.

Following WrestleMania, the two teams continued to feud, with Natalya and Tamina picking up singles victories over the champions, leading to the rematch where they finally overcame the former champions to secure their place at the top of the Women’s Tag Division.
