Brock Lesnar is back home in WWE, and he’s set for a blockbuster feud with John Cena as a part of the latter’s Farewell Tour. Various stories have emerged on how Lesnar was able to return, and what company officials did to make the comeback happen, but a new narrative has just leaked involving Nick Khan and Triple H.
The Beast shocked the fans by leveling John Cena to close the 38th annual SummerSlam, right after Cena dropped the Undisputed WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes. Brock Lesnar had been away since the 2023 edition of The Biggest Party of the Summer as his planned return for early 2024 was nixed after he was first alluded to and later named in the sexual misconduct lawsuit against Vince McMahon and John Laurinaitis, filed by Janel Grant. Reps for the former WWE HQ employee have since issued a curious statement on Lesnar’s return.
At times, it appeared WWE officials were done with Brock Lesnar, and there were rumors that he’d never return to the storylines. There was a bit of a shift in online speculation during the last build to SummerSlam when it was revealed how the former UFC Heavyweight Champion dominated the company’s list of the top 25 greatest matches at The Biggest Party of the Summer.
Despite the back-and-forth speculation about Lesnar’s WWE future over the last year, officials kept a different direction close to the vest. A new report from The Wrestling Observer notes that Brock was always going to be brought back; officials were just waiting on WWE legal to clear him, if that was possible.
Nick Khan’s Reported Stance On Controversies As It Relates To Brock Lesnar
Triple H first revealed earlier this week how WWE officials contacted Brock Lesnar and told him it was time to come home, and the 48-year-old was in agreement. The Wrestling Observer notes how WWE’s Chief Content Officer joined Nick Khan in making the return happen.
The WWE President and Chief Content Officer spoke with Brock Lesnar after he was cleared by the company’s legal department, around a month before SummerSlam. The Wrestling Observer added that the plan was kept secret from even some higher-ups in the company, so that the return could happen on SummerSlam Sunday. Regarding Khan, the report noted that his attitude towards talent controversies is that, unless there is a criminal conviction, the situation in question is not an issue. This was described as a general rule for the lifelong wrestling fan.
Lee Fitting has received immense praise for his work as WWE’s Head of Media & Production. The Executive Producer was fired by ESPN in August 2023 after more than 25 years on the job, accused of inappropriate comments towards women. Fitting is known to be good at his job, and The Observer pointed to how Khan had hired him for WWE in early 2024, despite the ESPN allegations, and how this appears to be a pattern for Khan.
The Observer also noted how Khan hired Jamie Horowitz to work as WWE’s EVP of Development & Digital in June 2021. Horowitz departed WWE in December 2023 due to merger cuts, but he was fired by FOX Sports in 2017 following an investigation into claims of sexual harassment. Dave Meltzer recalled how The Observer received complaints from within WWE after Horowitz was hired, allegedly from “multiple women who were extremely unhappy” over the hire.
