Former NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez is seemingly on the verge of leaving the developmental brand for good according to a new report.
Gonzalez has been part of WWE since 2016 and competed in the first two Mae Young Classic Tournaments in 2017 and 2018. The native Texan made her full-time televised debut in NXT in February 2020 where she helped Dakota Kai defeat former partner Tegan Nox in a Street Fight.
Kai and Gonzalez went on to win the inaugural women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament in early 2021, with the pair going on to be crowned the inaugural NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions.
Greater success lay just around the corner for Raquel Gonzalez however as at NXT TakeOver: Stand And Deliver she defeated Io Shirai to become NXT Women’s Champion for the first time.
It wasn’t long before jealousy got the better of Dakota Kai and she turned on her long-time partner, unsuccessfully challenging for Gonzalez’s title. Gonzalez did however lose her championship to Mandy Rose at NXT: Halloween Havoc as the black and gold era came to an end and NXT 2.0 was born.
Now Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live has reported that Gonzalez is “on her way out” of NXT but will be kept around until after this year’s women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Gonzalez has not been officially named as part of that tournament although she has been propositioned by Cora Jade to team up with her but so far seems reluctant to take a chance on her and Jade being able to co-exist.
It is believed that following the Dusty Cup which is slated to begin in February that Gonzalez will then become part of either the Raw or SmackDown roster.
Raquel Gonzalez is the girlfriend of former WWE Universal Champion Braun Strowman, now better known under his real name of Adam Scherr. Scherr recently divulged that the duo had visited a strip club together but Gonzalez would rather have a promo cut on her by Stone Cold Steve Austin than have a lap dance.
