Raquel Gonzalez & Dakota Kai Win NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles

Raquel Gonzalez & Dakota Kai celebrate winning NXT Women's Tag Team Titles

Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai have captured the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships for a second time!

After reuniting just days ago, Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai wasted little time in making an impact in the women’s tag team division.

While the two women walked into Stand & Deliver with undoubted championship pedigree, their renewed union was untested. However, the pair worked together like they had never been apart to claim the gold.

With the match barrelling towards a conclusion, the team of Gigi Dolin and Jacey Jayne appeared to have the match won, but Dakota Kai refused to be pinned. As Toxic Attraction stood stunned at being unable to keep the former champion down, Wendy Choo appeared at ringside, confronting Dolin.

After hitting Dolin with her trademark pillow, Choo threw her drink over her leaving the way clear for Gonzalez to take out the champion. Back in the ring, Kai dropped Jayne with a high kick, before tagging in Gonzalez who claimed the win after hitting the Chingona Bomb.

The friendship between Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai began in mid-2020, and the pair went on to win the inaugural Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic in 2021 to be crowned the first NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions. However, they lost the titles the same night to Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon.

When Raquel went on to win the NXT Women’s Championship by defeating Io Shirai at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver, it didn’t take long for jealousy to take hold of Dakota, and she turned on her friend in July of 2021. Kai unsuccessfully challenged Gonzalez for the NXT Women’s Championship, and the two have been at odds ever since.

In recent months, Raquel has found herself in an alliance with the young upstart Cora Jade, and the two teamed together in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. While they were favoured to win the tournament, interference from Toxic Attraction allowed Dakota Kai and her new partner Wendy Choo to score an upset victory in their semifinal match, and it was said on NXT programming that Raquel would be out for weeks.
