Raquel Gonzalez Names Her Dream WWE Hall Of Fame Mentor

NXT’s resident powerhouse, Raquel Gonzalez, has taken the time to speak about her wish to train with Beth Phoenix ahead of the biggest match of her life at NXT TakeOver: WarGames.

Gonzalez made her official impactful NXT debut in February 2020 at NXT TakeOver: Portland when she raced to the ring during Dakota Kai’s Street Fight with Tegan Nox in order to aid the former. Making a statement, she pushed the Welsh competitor from the top rope and through a table.

Since then, the tough Texan has helped Kai gain victories over the likes of Ember Moon while waging wars against Rhea Ripley and most recently, Shotzi Blackheart, alongside Kai and Candice LeRae.

Having already mixed it up with the best of the best on the black and gold brand, Gonzalez has her sights set on another female competitor in WWE Hall of Famer, Beth Phoenix.

In an interview on WWE’s The Bump, the former Reina Gonzalez explained that she has no desire to battle ‘The Glamazon’, but rather absorb her knowledge and work with her in order to improve between the ropes.

“I’ve only gotten to pick Beth’s brain when she was here with us at the Mae Young [Tournament], and also when she was able to come to the PC. Obviously, this year has changed a lot of that for all of us. Listening to her commentary each week and her comments on my matches has helped me as well because she’s such an inspirational person, and I do look to her for inspiration [both] outside and inside of the ring. We’re a rare breed. Knowing that she was able to embrace that, and giving me that confidence to embrace that, has really helped me with what I do in the ring.”

Gonzalez hasn’t been able to access Beth’s knowledge since her debut thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic keeping the former WWE Divas Champion out of the renamed WWE Capitol Wrestling Center and off of NXT television.

A regular commentator on the black and gold brand, Phoenix has been lending her vocals to the brand from home via satellite link since the pandemic began rather than risking her health and that of her family by travelling to Florida every week.

Raquel Gonzalez will be a part of Team LeRae along with Candice LeRae, Dakota Kai and Toni Storm to battle Team Shotzi at NXT TakeOver: WarGames on December 6.

Inside the Ropes will have live coverage of NXT TakeOver: WarGames.
