Raquel Gonzalez has defeated Io Shirai to win the NXT Women’s Championship in the main event of night one of NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver.
Io Shirai had held the NXT Women’s Championship since defeating Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley in a Triple Threat Match at NXT TakeOver: In Your House back in June 2020.
Raquel Gonzalez has been on a roll since the turn of the year. After forming an alliance with Dakota Kai, the pair went on to win the first ever Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. The duo then became the inaugural NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions after being awarded the belts by NXT General Manger William Regal. However, the team would lose the belts later the same night, and Io Shirai would lay down her challenge to Gonzalez during a backstage segment.

A big-fight feel gripped the arena as the contest got underway with Io Shirai coming out all guns blazing. Dakota Kai attempted to get involved to help turn the tide in favour of Gonzalez but was quickly sent to the back. This eventually led to a brilliant exchange in which Shirai rolled out of the Single Armed Powerbomb to lock in a cross-face.
Shirai laid out Gonzalez on the apron before the pair made their way up the ramp. This resulted in Shirai leaping from the huge skull in the entrance way to take out her rival. Once back in the ring, Gonzalez managed to rouse herself once more, hitting the Single Armed Powerbomb to finally put away Shirai.
