John Cena is set to return to WWE on December 30th for the final SmackDown of 2022. this will be the 16-Time World Champion’s first appearance for the company since June when he celebrated his 20-year anniversary as a WWE Superstar.
Not only will Cena appear on the show, but it has been confirmed he will also be wrestling for the first time this year.
During the main event of the December 16th edition of the blue brand, Roman Reigns announced that he and Sami Zayn would clash with Kevin Owens and a partner of his choosing on December 30th.
John Cena then interrupted The Tribal Chief via a video on the big screen. The star revealed that Owens had already asked him to be his partner and accepted the invitation to make the match official.
With Cena still ready and willing to take to the ring at a moment’s notice, people have already begun speculating on whether he might appear at WrestleMania 39 and who his potential opponent could be.
Smoke DZA thinks John Cena vs. Logan Paul is “smart business”
Rap star Smoke DZA was one of the people considering who Cena should face on The Grandest Stage Of Them All and, on the ‘Cheap Heat’ podcast, made the case for it to be YouTuber and WWE Superstar Logan Paul.
“I think it’s smart business. It protects Cena the most. I don’t think it puts any young talent over because Logan Paul isn’t a mainstay on WWE television.
“So putting Logan Paul over is not really conducive to what’s happening. But then, a heel Logan Paul against a face John Cena, you know people like to see Logan Paul get beat up.”
Logan Paul made his in-ring debut at WrestleMania 38 in April 2022, teaming with The Miz to defeat Rey and Dominik Mysterio. He then officially signed with WWE on June 30th, 2022 and engaged in a rivalry with The Miz that saw him get his second victory when he beat the former WWE Champion at SummerSlam.
Most recently, he battled Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia, but came up short and was defeated for the first time. During the bout, he suffered an MCL and meniscus injury that has left him out of action since.
