Randy Orton Wants WrestleMania Match Against Familiar Opponent: “I Think The Fans Would Eat It Up”

Randy Orton WWE WrestleMania

Randy Orton wants one more match against John Cena – this time at WrestleMania.

Since making their debuts in WWE in 2002, John Cena and Randy Orton have faced off inside the squared circle on numerous occasions. Despite their careers being closely linked, the two have never faced each other one-on-one on the Grandest Stage of Them All, with their only WrestleMania bout being a triple threat match in 2008 that also included Triple H.

Speaking on the latest edition of WWE’s The Bump, Orton was asked about walking into WrestleMania 40 as a 14-time World Champion, just two reigns shy of Cena’s 16. Orton said that while title aspirations don’t keep him up at night, he believes he has time to achieve or surpass the record shared by Cena and Flair.

“Gosh, you know, it’s not something that I harp on, because I’ve been so fortunate. You know, the 14 title reigns that I’ve had, you know that that means a lot to me. So making it 15, making it 16, like, of course I would love for that to happen. It doesn’t keep me up at night, dreaming of that next title shot, because I think I know that it’s in the cards. I feel healthy enough. I feel like I’ve got plenty of time left in my career to where I’m going to come back around and I’m going to be wearing that title at least one or two more times.”

Randy Orton Wants To Face John Cena In A Title Match At WrestleMania

Despite John Cena’s in-ring career being largely behind him, the star does return to WWE on occasion, and Randy Orton thinks one more match between the two of them deserves to take place at WrestleMania.

“A dream match for me would be to somehow find myself in a situation where I’m fighting Cena at WrestleMania for the title. Now, I don’t know how you get there. I’m not saying it’s gonna happen. I have never wrestled John at WrestleMania in a singles match. So that and we, we had some wars back in the day. So like, being able to revisit that after all this time, I think it’s not only something that I would want, I think the fans would eat it up too.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Randy Orton spoke about what initially upset him about his return to WWE at Survivor Series in November.

During the same interview, Randy Orton was very complimentary of a rising WWE Superstar.
