WWE TLC has had its sixth match revealed: Randy Orton will take on ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt in a Firefly Inferno match on December 20th!
Orton and Wyatt have been on a collision course ever since The Fiend cost Orton an opportunity to recapture the WWE Championship after losing the belt back to Drew McIntyre before Survivor Series. In retaliation, Orton trapped Wyatt in a burning box last week – in an ode to his burning down of The Wyatt Compound three and half years ago – but The Fiend emerged unafflicted. Now, the two do battle in a Firefly Inferno match!
…so what on earth even is a Firefly Inferno match?
The truth is, we don’t know. WWE didn’t divulge any details on the stipulation in their WWE.com article announcing the match-up, other than that fact that “Orton will have to step inside The Fiend’s twisted inferno.” That suggests that the bout will be a cinematic match taking place inside the Firefly Funhouse universe, similar to the match The Fiend prevailed in over John Cena at WrestleMania earlier this year – though that’s purely speculation.
The Firefly Inferno match up joins a fairly well-rounded card for WWE TLC including Drew McIntyre vs AJ Styles in a TLC match for the WWE Championship, Roman Reigns vs Kevin Owens in a TLC match for the Universal Championship and Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler defending the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships against Asuka and a mystery opponent, after Lana was pulled from the match on RAW.
