Randy Orton set a new WWE record at Elimination Chamber 2024.
The first-ever PLE to take place in Australia saw the 14-time World Champion enter the Elimination Chamber to face Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley, Kevin Owens, Logan Paul and LA Knight for the opportunity to face Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XL.
The match was won by the favourite McIntyre meaning Orton missed out on a WrestleMania main event and the chance to become champion for the 15th time. But despite this loss, The Viper made a historic achievement.
What WWE record did Randy Orton beat?
Orton’s participation in the match marked the ninth time he has entered the unforgiving steel structure, beating the record set by a certain AEW star Chris Jericho – the former WWE and AEW Champion previously held the record for most Elimination Chamber appearances with Orton.
The record-breaking triumph was announced by Michael Cole during Orton’s entrance with the longtime WWE commentator mentioning Jericho live on WWE programming.
Jericho participated in the inaugural Elimination Chamber match in 2002 while Orton first walked into the bout the following year. Jericho was never successful in his eight Chamber attempts while Orton won the gruelling spectacle in 2014.
Orton debuted for the company in 2002 after signing a developmental deal two years previously. He honed his craft in Ohio Valley Wrestling with the likes of John Cena, Dave Batista, Shelton Benjamin and Brock Lesnar.
Jericho first appeared for WWE after a stint in ECW in 1996 and WCW from 1996 to 1999. He joined AEW in 2019 and has since become an eight time World Champion.
