Randy Orton revealed the details of his COVID-19 diagnosis back in June and how it led him to undergo an incredible physical transformation.
After losing to John Morrison in a Money in the Bank qualifying match in late June, Randy Orton mysteriously disappeared from Monday Night Raw for seven weeks, leaving his tag team partner Riddle to fend for himself in a number of storylines where he wondered when his partner would return.
Randy Orton returned on the August 9th episode and tried to end his partnership with Riddle, but the two would reunite and go on to defeat AJ Styles and Omos at SummerSlam to become the Raw Tag Team Champions. They held onto their titles until losing to Alpha Academy on January 10th.
Speaking on The Ringer Wrestling Show, Randy Orton recently revealed that his summertime absence was due to contracting COVID-19 in June. He detailed the toll the disease took on his body, including causing him to lose a good deal of weight while being ill.
“In June, I got COVID. I missed seven weeks of TV because my blood inflammation levels were so high that they were worried that it was going to turn into a myocarditis or echocarditis or something with the heart. So I had all this time, and I had lost 20 pounds during COVID. I had it so bad. I was stick skinny, stick thin. So it was like ok, I have a chance to rebuild here, I’m either going to do it this way or I’m going to do it that way.”
Orton went on to reveal how he was able to get back into shape after being so ill, undergoing a complete physical transformation and feeling better than he can ever remember.
“I cut the alcohol. I cut the sugar. I started training a little harder. I started seeing another physical therapist for some issues with my shoulder and my back because we’re always staying up on those injuries. And now here we are six months later and I think I’m feeling the best that I’ve felt physically since I can remember to be honest.”
