R-Truth Recalls Trying To Pop Brock Lesnar Mid-Segment For A Bet

R-Truth & Brock Lesnar

R-Truth has recalled trying to make Brock Lesnar laugh during a segment on Raw after being told by Paul Heyman there was a bet running backstage.

On the January 13th 2020 episode of Monday Night Raw, Brock Lesnar stood tall in the middle of the ring as WWE Champion, flanked by his advocate Paul Heyman. The week before, the pair had declared that as no one deserved a chance to face The Beast at the upcoming Royal Rumble, he would instead enter the Rumble match at number one and take everyone out.

With the stakes made clear, Heyman ran down all of the reasons why Lesnar was going to win the match. However, the festivities were surprisingly interrupted by R-Truth. The record-breaking 24/7 Champion made his way to the ring to declare himself for the Royal Rumble.

Although R-Truth being R-Truth, he had misjudged the situation just a little by thinking he would be facing Paul Heyman and not Brock Lesnar. When he found out it was in fact the WWE Champion he’d be meeting in the ring, he promptly undeclared himself.

All the way through the segment Lesnar stood to one side in disbelief, laughing his head off before destroying the 24/7 Champion.

Speaking to Ryan Satin on the Out of Character podcast, Truth has lifted the lid on the segment. He explained that he was encouraged by Heyman to try and make Lesnar laugh as there was a bet running on whether or not he could manage it.

“The thing about that is they didn’t want Brock to know what I was going to say. I’m like, ‘I feel like, personally, Brock should know what I’m going to say.’ Paul was like, ‘No Truth, we got a bet going, we want to see if you can make him laugh. Can you pop Brock?’ I said, ‘I can make him laugh, but I want him to laugh in a happy way. I don’t want him to turn into Brock Brock.’

I agreed to it and when I saw Brock starting to hold his laugh in, I knew he was going to laugh when I hit the Paul Heyman line because he thought I was talking about him. When I hit it and he laughed, I did all I could to not laugh. Laughing is infectious. When Brock laughed, I tried my best to hold it and I was holding it as much I could. That was one of my best moments.

When we got to the back, me and Brock hugged and he was like, ‘that was funny. You’re funny!’ It was a good moment, a good TV segment,”

While getting decimated by Brock Lesnar is a bad night in anyone’s book, things somehow got even worse. As he was being helped to the back, Truth was attacked by Mojo Rawley losing his prized championship in the process.
