Pro Wrestling Guerrilla has announced the card for its upcoming NINETEEN event in July, which features their first all-women’s clash in over a decade.
In what has become a bit of a running joke, the California-based Pro Wrestling Guerrilla have booked their first one-on-one match between two female talents in over a decade. Occasional AEW star Yuka Sakazaki and recent IMPACT signing Masha Slamovich are both scheduled to debut with the promotion at their 3 July card, entitled NINETEEN.
Yuka Sakazaki is currently in the midst of her third reign as Princess Tag Team Champion in Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling alongside Mizuki, while Masha Slamovich, signed to IMPACT Wrestling just last October, is the reigning Global Syndicate Wrestling Women’s World Champion and Combat Fights Unlimited Undisputed Champion.

Records show that this marks PWG’s first match between two female talents since Card Subject To Change on 9 April 2011. There, Candice LeRae defeated Portia Perez. LeRae had previously defeated Christina Von Eerie twice, LuFisto, and the late Daffney, but these remain her only singles matches with female talent in the eight years she spent with the company.
The rest of LeRae’s PWG career saw her competing against her male counterparts, which included her capturing the PWG World Tag Team Championships from The Young Bucks in a brutal Guerrilla Warfare match. This was the famous match that saw ‘The Poison Pixie’ receive a Superkick from Matt Jackson as he was wearing a thumbtack-coated shoe.
Whether or not women’s matches in PWG become the norm remains to be seen, but this is certainly a step in the right direction.
