A new report has claimed that at least two words that had previously been on WWE’s ‘banned list’ are now free to be used.
As WWE steps forward into it’s bold new era one shock return and appearance by a tractor at a time, fans have pinned their hopes on the company ringing the changes. In fact, changes to the on-screen product are already visible, just two weeks into the Triple H/Stephanie McMahon/Nick Khan era.
Commentary appears much more loose and less scripted, while unheralded stars such as Ciampa and Mustafa Ali have already been given time to shine in the ring. Meanwhile, there have also been tweaks backstage with performers now allowed more creative freedom when it comes to promos and matches.
A recent bout on SmackDown between Drew McIntyre and Sheamus was largely called in the ring, something that had become almost unheard of in recent years.
It has also been reported by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, that “wrestling” and “wrestler” are no longer considered “dirty words.”
For a number of years wrestlers were only referred to as “Superstars,” while professional wrestling became “Sports Entertainment” and title belts have traditionally been referred to as “Championships.”
The same report also noted that there is a “positive and fresh vibe” backstage since Triple H took over as Head of Creative. However, some stars are also nervous about what the future might hold, feeling concerned that they might not be featured as heavily by rejigged creative team.
