Powerhouse Hobbs has discussed the advice the late Brodie Lee gave him during their time together in All Elite Wrestling.
Appearing on the Talk Is Jericho podcast, the Team Taz member spoke about some of his favourite matches thus far in AEW.Two stood out to Hobbs:
“My favourite match that I’ve had since I’ve been here, it’s a tie between when Ricky [Starks] and I went up against Darby and Cody [Rhodes] and the six-man we had for the Brodie tribute. It was a Team Taz, myself Ricky, and [Brian] Cage vs. 10, Cody [and] Cassidy. It was amazing.”
That 6-man tag team match was the main event during the Brodie Lee tribute episode of AEW Dynamite. That night would see the Dark Order involved in every match as they would claim a clean sweep of victories in memory of their fallen leader.
Powerhouse Hobbs would then discuss his interactions with Brodie Lee, including the former TNT Champion offering him some advice.
“The time that I was here that I got to know Brodie was amazing because right after my first Dark match with Orange [Cassidy], he pulled me aside and talked to me, and ever since, every match that I’ve had, he watched [and] always gave me advice. So that was just awesome because my whole family loved him when he was in The Wyatt Family.”
“He was a real good person, and that meant a lot to me for him to pull me aside, to say, ‘Hey, you’re a big man. Don’t do this. Try this. This worked. That didn’t work. I remember I did a frog splash in a match, and he told me, ‘I know you can do it, but you don’t need to do it.’ And I ain’t done it since.”
The wrestling world continues to pay tribute to ‘The Exalted One’ since his untimely passing. The New Day appeared at the Royal Rumble wearing Brodie Lee/Luke Harper inspired ring gear. They are currently auctioning it off to raise funds for a charity in Lee’s hometown of Rochester, New York.
