Potential Spoiler On Rey Fenix’s First WWE Opponent

Backstage News & Creative Plans For Rey Fenix Joining WWE

Rey Fenix is set to debut for WWE imminently and his first opponent may have been revealed.

Following weeks of teases, the latest vignette confirmed that the former AEW Tag Team and International Champion would be making his debut for the company on the April 4th episode of SmackDown. Unlike Penta’s debut that saw Chad Gable issue a challenge to face “the single best luchador walking this planet”, it is currently unknown at this time who will be Fenix’s first opponent on SmackDown. However, according to a new report, a segment alluding to the former AEW star’s first match in WWE may have been scrapped.

Speaking on Sportskeeda’s Backstage Pass podcast, WrestleVotes noted that a segment featuring Andrade was pulled from the SmackDown taping in Italy, which could have alluded to Andrade vs. Fenix:

“Don’t know for sure but I can go back to the SmackDown three weeks ago, the one from Italy. Written in the show before the Liv Morgan vs. Jade Cargill match, there was to be a backstage segment with Nick Aldis telling Andrade that there are new talent coming to SmackDown and he would want him to work with them first. That segment got cut.

It was not supposed to be on last week’s show, so I don’t know where it stands. However, that would indicate to me that at least they had plans at the minimum for Andrade vs. Rey Fenix. We’ll see if that happens.”

When Did Rey Fenix Last Wrestle In AEW?

Fenix’s final AEW match took place in July 2024 when he defeated Tony Nese on an episode of Collision. Both Fenix and Penta were kept off TV for the rest of the year, reportedly due to their intentions to leave the promotion.
