Potential Hurdle Regarding Plans For Sting's Last Match At AEW Revolution

Plans for Sting’s retirement match at AEW Revolution may be altered due to WWE.

March 3rd will be an emotional day in the wrestling world as The Icon steps into the ring one final time. Teaming up with Darby Allin once again, the duo will defend the Tag Team Championships against The Young Bucks in what is very likely to be the main event of the show.

With a career spanning more than 3 decades, many are optimistic that a video package of The Hall of Famer’s greatest hits will feature on the show to highlight the legendary career of The Icon. However, this is likely to not be as straightforward as WWE own the WCW tape library, which contains many of the biggest moments of Sting’s career.

Due to the magnitude of the occasion and rival talent has featured on WWE programming in the past for one-off appearances, will the footage be made available to use so the Hall of Famer can have a truly memorable send-off?

As reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, although exceptions have been made in the past, it seems unlikely given that Kevin Nash was reportedly banned from being at the event:

People were wondering if WWE would allow AEW the use of original Sting-Flair footage or Sting career footage for his retirement show. There were precedents, not of that, but of AEW allowing its talent like Chris Jericho, Paul Wight, Bryan Danielson and Mark Henry to do videos for Sting’s tribute show and allowing Billy Gunn to appear at the WWE Hall of Fame and also at a DX Reunion (which WWE turned down because the request from AEW for Gunn to be there was to say Gunn works for AEW similar to how they had said Mickie James worked for Impact when they allowed her in the Rumble).

I didn’t expect it but you never know. But it doesn’t look good at this point given WWE told Kevin Nash that he couldn’t go to Greensboro for the show. This wasn’t even a request to appear in a ceremony for on TV but just to attend. This wasn’t an AEW asking but Sting asking as a friend.

Veteran Announcer Hopeful To Be A Part Of Sting’s Last Match

While it has been speculated that anyone associated with WWE will be unable to attend the historic final match of the former World Champion, a legendary announcer signed to All Elite Wrestling wants to be behind the desk to call the action one more time. Currently resting up to allow his leg to heal, Jim Ross would like to return, noting that he wants the same team that called the first Clash of Champions match to be at the desk for Revolution.

According to a new report, plans changed for a recent Sting match.
