New update on Rey Fenix’s WWE status.
Since the last one year, rumors and reports have floated around regarding Fenix’s wrestling status. Previously stuck in a controversial contract agreement with Tony Khan and AEW last year, the former champion was recently released from his position at the Jacksonville-based promotion.
While reports began emerging about his WWE arrival last week, cryptic teasers began airing on SmackDown, which fans began associating with Rey Fenix. However, within just one week of the vignettes, Fightful Select has shared a positive update.
According to new reports from Fightful Select Espanol, Fenix has officially signed with World Wrestling Entertainment. The report notes that after last week’s vignette, the signing was pretty much confirmed. The current plans are to have Fenix debut on the SmackDown brand, although an official date remains unknown.
The former AEW International Champion recently had his medicals done, and he and his brother Penta are not expected to speak heavily about their falling out with Tony Khan’s promotion.
The company higher-ups are also in the process of releasing new merchandise ahead of his debut.
Reported Backstage Creative Plans For Rey Fenix
According to WrestleVotes on WrestleVotes Radio, Rey Fenix is expected to reunite with his brother Penta, who is active on the Raw roster. Although, Fightful Select has associated Fenix with the blue brand.
“According to sources, the impending debut of Rey Fenix is indeed happening as his name has begun to resurface on marketing documents once again. That source confirms that a deal between Fenix and the company has either been agreed to in principle or is on the verge of completion as of this writing.”
