CM Punk was emotional when he had to announce an injury that left him needing surgery, but now there are signs of good news for the AEW World Champion.
On the June 3rd episode of Rampage, CM Punk came to the ring with tears in his eyes and said that every bone in his body had told him to go home. With that said, he went on to reveal that he needs to undergo surgery.
The star added that he will be back, bigger, faster, and stronger than ever before, promising to prove why he is the best in the world.
The timing couldn’t have been worse for Punk who just days earlier had captured the AEW World Championship at Double Or Nothing from Adam Page. However, CM Punk is still considered AEW Champion with an interim champion set to be crowned at Forbidden Door when Jon Moxley faces Hiroshi Tanahashi.
AEW President Tony Khan gave a positive update on Punk’s condition in an interview with comicbook.com but concedes there is no timetable for the star to return to action:
“I can’t comment on his return timetable. I’m very hopeful and optimistic though, and his surgery was successful, and he’ll be back. I don’t want to put an exact date on it and put any expectations on him. But I do think we’re very optimistic about it and I think Punk is optimistic about it too, which is great.”
CM Punk had been forming a unit with current ROH Tag Team Champions FTR on AEW television. At Road Rager, Dax Harwood of FTR will go one-on-one with former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay.
