Pop-metal hybrid artist Poppy has revealed which celebrity gave her the idea of working with WWE after seeing them appear on the company’s programming!
Speaking to Yahoo Entertainment, Poppy discussed her recent crossovers with the world of wrestling – including her real-life friendship with NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai, performing “Scary Mask” for the black-and-yellow brand twice and how she got the idea of working with WWE!
The music sensation revealed that working with WWE had been a dream of hers from when she was younger, being inspired by a Pee-Wee Herman appearance on their programming!
“That was also one of my side dreams from a very long time ago — I wanted to work with WWE. I got the idea after I saw Paul Reubens, Pee-Wee Herman, make an appearance on WWE back in the day. They used my music in a video game and for a couple of intro songs, and then invited me to play. I think I’ve done it three or four times now.”
Herman has made two appearances for WWE so it’s unclear which exact one Poppy is referring to, though it can be assumed it was his November 1st 2010 appearance when he was a guest host of RAW. He also made a cameo appearance at WrestleMania 27 alongside The Rock and Gene Okerlund in a backstage segment, where he admitted to being John Cena’s number one fan.
Poppy, meanwhile, made her first crossover with the world of wrestling back in January 2019 when her song “X” was used as the official theme for NXT TakeOver: Phoenix. She’s since made three appearances for the NXT brand – twice performing “Scary Mask” to lead Io Shirai to the ring as well as during the opener of TakeOver: Portland in February earlier this year.
