Cassie Lee, formerly known as Peyton Royce in WWE has opened up about a less than ideal meeting with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, joking it was so bad that it may have led to her release!
After enjoying a successful tag team run alongside Jessie McKay (Billie Kay) for her entire WWE run up to that point, the pair known as the IIconics were broken up in late 2019.
Following the break-up, both women failed to hit the heights they had done as a pair and we released on April 15th 2021.
Speaking on the Off Her Chops podcast that she hosts alongside McKay, Lee revealed that she had a meeting with Vince McMahon shortly after the pair were broken up. With McKay moving to SmackDown, Lee was left to make her way as a singles star on RAW.
Reflecting on her meeting with McMahon, Lee said that although she went in with an idea, things went downhill quickly.
“This is when [Billie Kay was] drafted to SmackDown and I decided to put on my big girl panties and talk to Vince. I had in my head what I knew I wanted to say, but he brushed it off very quickly and I was like, ‘Aw, crap. I’ve got nothing else.’ I had an idea that I wanted to present and he wanted to discuss other ideas, but I didn’t have other ideas. This was the one I wanted to talk about and put my time and effort into.”
Lee continued, explaining how things went from bad to worse, when the Chairman asked what she liked to do for fun.
“He says to me, ‘What do you do for fun?’ Me being me, the introvert, the homebody that I am, I had to let him know that I like to sit on the couch with my dogs and watch TV and he just stared at me, and so in my head, I’m like, ‘just make something up!’ I couldn’t make anything up. Nothing was coming out. Because I’m not a liar. I didn’t want to lie to the man. I feel like he could have seen right through that. I basically said to him ‘I’m sorry, I’m boring. I like to just be at home on my off days.'”
Launching into her best Vince McMahon impression, Lee said that there was nothing wrong with being at home before joking that the meeting might have been why she lost her job.
“[As Vince] ‘There’s nothing boring about that. You’re at home with your dogs watching TV!’
I didn’t contribute much during that, unfortunately. Probably why I lost the job!” [Laughs]
Following their release by WWE, Peyton Royce and Billie Kay have pledged to work together as a team wherever they end up next.
With that in mind, the duo recently filed a trademark for the term ‘The IInspiration’. There’s no further context around this filing available, however many have reasonably speculated that this could potentially be the team’s new name since ‘The IIconics’ remains under WWE licence.
