Peter Avalon has discussed how an All Elite Wrestling EVP helped him transform from ‘sshhhhh’ to sexy as the librarian reverted to Pretty Peter in AEW.
In recent months Peter Avalon has shed the librarian gimmick he shared with Leva Bates when they both joined AEW at its inception in 2019. He now refers to himself as Pretty Peter Avalon – something that he did for most of his wrestling life before joining AEW. Avalon has formed The WIngmen group in the company alongside Cezar Bononi, JD Drake, and Ryan Nemeth, recently revealing it was a relative newcomer to AEW who had the idea for the group.
Speaking to Tony Schiavone and Aubrey Edwards on the AEW Unrestricted podcast, Peter Avalon revealed the hand that Cody Rhodes has had in his change of direction in the company.
“He absolutely had a hand in the direction that we went with it in AEW. Pretty Peter is just me. That’s just the way I live my life. I’ve been Pretty Peter for all – I’m in my thirteenth year of wrestling now, that’s been pretty much what I’ve done. For a little while, I switched over to a gimmick called Professional Peter. Then when I was running the Arizona television show I was Producer Peter. So I kind of keep a theme. But, I’ve always been Pretty. Cody for sure had a hand in the energy change we went to with like the whole model walk-off and the loving not only myself but loving just beauty and everyone, and kind of leaning more so in that direction. I appreciate Cody really diving in and helping me find a direction to kind of go with it instead of just being a generic pretty boy.”
Avalon’s last singles match in AEW came against Cody Rhodes on AEW Dynamite back in January. On that occasion, Rhodes swept aside Avalon to claim the win.
