Pete Dunne will challenge Finn Balor for the NXT Championship on February 14, 2021, at NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day.
On the February 3 edition of the black and gold brand, it was announced that the former and longest reigning WWE United Kingdom Champion – now NXT UK Championship – would go to war with the Irish champion on Valentines Day in a segment mediated by 2021 Royal Rumble winner, Edge, who vowed to be watching the bout closely as he teased choosing the winner as his WrestleMania 37 opponent.
For weeks now, ‘The Bruiserweight’ has been a constant thorn in the side of ‘The Prince’ and seemed to step-up his pursuit of the NXT Championship after failing to defeat Kyle O’Reilly for the right to challenge the former WWE Universal Champion at NXT New Year’s Evil.
In a continuation of his never-ending war with The Undisputed ERA thanks to their ties to Finn Balor in recent months, Dunne has taken every available opportunity to attack and injure the NXT Champion until he was forced to put his strap on the line in order to get the Birmingham native one-on-one.
NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day will be only the second time Pete Dunne has had a crack at a heavyweight strap on television since his historic reign came to an end at the hands of WALTER in 2019.
Alongside Pete Dunne vs. Finn Balor, NXT also announced that Johnny Gargano will defend his NXT North American Championship against Kushida in a bout which has come around after ‘The Time Splitter’ eliminated Gargano and Austin Theory from the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day currently shapes up like this:

Finn Balor vs. Pete Dunne
NXT Women’s Championship Match
Io Shirai vs. Toni Storm vs. Mercedes Martinez
NXT North American Championship Match
Johnny Gargano vs. Kushida
