A clash between Paul Wight, formerly known as The Big Show, and Shaquille O’Neal has been speculated upon for years. While the two are yet to meet one on one, reflecting on Shaq’s AEW in-ring debut, Paul Wight said that he’d “be more than happy to show him how to chop for real.”
The closest the pair came to a fighting it out was during the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 32, where they stared each other down in the middle of the ring. A one on one match was rumoured to be confirmed for the following WrestleMania but the much hyped showdown didn’t come to pass.
Shaq made his debut in AEW on the March 3rd episode of Dynamite, where along with Jade Cargill he defeated the team of Cody Rhodes and Red Velvet. The match will be most remembered for Shaq being driven through two tables by Rhodes. The former NBA All-Star left ringside on a stretcher where he was placed into an ambulance backstage, before disappearing.
Appearing on Oral Sessions with Renee Paquette, Wight praised Shaq’s efforts in the ring, before hinting that he hopes to cross paths with the NBA legend down the road.
“I think Shaq did a great job. I think he’s a natural showman, he’s an incredible athlete. And I think if the stars align I’d be more than happy to show him how to chop for real.”
Shaq’s performance also drew praise from his adversary on the night, Cody Rhodes. AEW’s Executive Vice President commented that he told the former NBA center that he’s “a wrestler now” reiterating how seriously he had taken his training.
It is unclear at this time whether Shaquille O’Neal will make any future AEW appearances.
