Paul Wight has recalled flipping off wrestling icon Hulk Hogan during one of their more infamous segments together back in WCW.
Back in the mid-nineties, Hulk Hogan was yet to don the black and white of the nWo and WCW were doing their best to fans the flames from the embers of Hulkamania. In a prolonged feud with Kevin Sullivan’s Dungeon of Doom, Hogan had faced all manner of beasts as Sullivan sought to end Hulkamania once and for all.
In the run-up to Halloween Havoc in 1995, Sullivan thought he had found his answer as he introduced the world to The Giant – portrayed by Paul Wight. The Giant and Hogan were to meet in what would be Wight’s first-ever match in WCW for the WCW World Championship in the main event of Halloween Havoc, but first – for some inexplicable reason – the two men had to have a monster truck battle on top of Cobo Arena in Detroit.
The monster truck segment ended when Hogan apparently threw The Giant off of the roof of the arena, presumably to the concrete below. Despite what would appear to be a deadly fall, The Giant returned to defeat Hogan for the WCW Title later in the night.
Now speaking to Shakiel Mahjouri for ET Canada, Paul Wight discussed the segment and says he would never even consider doing anything like that again before recalling flipping off Hulk Hogan after he went apparently went off the roof:
“I definitely wouldn’t even consider doing that now at my age with my wisdom. Like, ‘No. Why are we doing that?’ But at 22, 23-years-old, I’m like, ‘Yeah, whatever you want to do. Push me off a building? Awesome.’ You know, because you’re just so excited.”
“The thing was for me to fall off the building. It was about four stories into a big airbag. I’m not a stunt man. I’ve never done anything like that, you know?… You’re young and you think you’re bulletproof… Just being young and being funny, when I went over and Hulk’s looking over the top at me, I was flipping him a bird on the way down… It’s a wonder he didn’t bust out laughing when I did it.”
