As speculation continues around the wrestling futures of CM Punk and Daniel Bryan, Paul Wight has now weighed in on the rumours.
While Tony Khan has refused to comment on the reports, it is widely understood that both Punk and Bryan will be heading to AEW. Punk’s arrival in particular has been teased on recent episodes of Dynamite, with Darby Allin appearing to go as far as calling out the former WWE Champion. Although, Allin later suggested that his “best in the world” jibe wasn’t aimed at Punk.
Paul Wight who was famously with WWE until signing with AEW in early February has now given his opinion on the two potential new arrivals.
Speaking to The Ring Report, Wight admitted that he was excited about the potential signings, saying the pair would “blow the roof off the industry.”
“I’m excited about it. I don’t really know. I’ve heard, of course, some backstage scuttlebutt. I’m friends with Daniel Bryan and CM Punk both. I think if either one of those guys made a serious commitment to come to AEW, they would blow the roof off the industry,”
Wight continued, saying that the two men would have more freedom in AEW than elsewhere, calling Bryan and Punk “incredible talents.”
“I think both those guys are incredible talents and they have a lot to offer any company that they join. Both of them will fit and like how they’re treated much more in AEW than they will anywhere else. There’s a lot more freedom for guys like Daniel Bryan and CM Punk to really excel and give the fans what they love most about them,” he continued. “There’s very little micromanaging in AEW. There’s a lot of trust in your professionalism and knowing who you are as a talent and what you bring to the table. There’s a lot of freedom to really amplify that and bring out the most for the fans. Personally, from where I’m sitting, I think it would be an incredible opportunity for Phil and Daniel to come here to AEW. If they do, that’s fantastic.”
On the most recent episode of AEW Dynamite, it was announced that Wight will be joining the announce team for AEW Rampage. The show which is set to debut on August 13th, will also be sound tracked by Chris Jericho, Excalibur and Taz. Since joining AEW, Wight has served as a commentator on AEW Dark: Elevation.
Another AEW announcer who has been talking about CM Punk is Jim Ross. The Hall of Famer said that he hopes AEW sign Punk, before calling him a “treasure” on a recent episode of his Grilling JR podcast.
It has recently been announced that Paul Wight will be heading to the UK to join Inside The Ropes for “An Evening With Paul Wight.” You can buy tickets for the three-night tour here.
