Paul Wight Updates Fans On Captain Insano’s AEW Future

Paul Wight Captain Insano

Paul Wight shed more details on the plans for Captain Insano to appear in AEW!

AEW star Paul Wight has portrayed many characters in his wrestling career, acting as The Giant in WCW and having a long tenure as the Big Show in WWE.

However, one of his lesser-discussed gimmicks took place in the 1998 comedy The Waterboy in which Wight portrayed the wrestling hero of the film’s protagonist, Bobby Boucher, played by Adam Sandler. In the film, Sandler’s character is mocked as he calls into a live interview segment with his favorite wrestler.

Wight confirmed in March that AEW had secured the rights to the Captain Insano character, and in a new interview with WrestlingInc, he confirmed plans to bring the character to All Elite Wrestling, and that he plans to compete in-ring.

“My whole reason for coming to AEW was to work on commentary and to compete more.”

When asked specifically about Captain Insano, Wight confirmed that he’ll be back and a part of All Elite Wrestling.

“He’ll [Captain Insano] be back. The guy who wrote The Waterboy has approved. Tony Khan and I have secured the rights to Captain Insano. There’s already an outfit made, the whole nine yards. We’re doing a lot of prep work, and this will be my last hoorah so to speak.”

However, fans shouldn’t expect the character to be going for the top prizes in AEW; instead, Wight says that he’ll be there to provide some fun and variety to the show.

“Let’s be honest – I don’t think this character is going to be a killer going out there trying to beat Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship. At this point, I think this character is just to have fun. We’ll see how it goes, but for me right now, this is just a chance to have fun with this character and be a bright spot on the show. We’ll see how I’m feeling, and we’ll see how everybody takes off with it.”

Paul Wight has competed three times in the ring since he joined AEW, with the highest-profile of these outings coming at All Out in 2021 where he defeated QT Marshall.
