The main event of night two of WrestleMania saw Roman Reigns, flanked by Paul Heyman, defeat Edge and Daniel Bryan to retain his WWE Universal Championship.
The match which was one of the most highly anticipated on the whole card, saw destruction, chaos and innovative spots throughout. The match ended with Reigns pinning both Edge and Bryan simultaneously to keep hold of his beloved Universal Championship.
It has now been reported that the man behind the chaos and destruction was Paul Heyman. According to a report from Fightful Select, Heyman was instrumental in the creative decisions behind the match.
Heyman’s involvement is much like what he did with Brock Lesnar, where much of the creative and matches filter through him. Edge and Daniel Bryan also contributed ideas heavily, and it was said to have been a big collaborative effort. The double submission headbutt spot was a Daniel Bryan idea.
It was also noted that Reigns is getting great reviews for his recent performances and that the decision to add Daniel Bryan to the match was taken weeks in advance.
It is also confirmed that plans for the match were decided weeks before the event and were never changed. Something which contrasts heavily with the match between The Fiend and Randy Orton match on the same night. On this occasion it was suggested that the outcome of the match was changed over the course of WrestleMania weekend and lacked clear creative direction, which left talent confused.
