Road Dogg has recently revealed that Paul Heyman pitched hard to Vince McMahon to give a beloved tag team wrestler a run as a singles wrestler.
Speaking on a recent episode of Busted Open radio, the former New Age Outlaw spoke about how Paul Heyman earmarked Montez Ford as a future star. Ford has primarily been utilised in a tag team, alongside Angelo Dawkins as part of The Street Profits during his WWE run, but more and more fans are clamouring to see how the charismatic superstar would fare as a singles superstar.
Road Dogg recalled Heyman pushing for Ford to be given more opportunities:
“Look, Paul Heyman had that conversation with Vince McMahon while I sat in the room about five years ago. I mean, pitched him hard. We all knew Montez, but Montez was new, you know what I mean? But Paul saw it. He saw this is, this is coming, you know what I mean?”
The WWE Legend agreed with this opinion and went on to praise the former Tag Team Champion, citing him as one to watch:
“Montez is the total package. That’s why I mentioned his name. What a great guy. What a level head on his shoulders. What a great athlete, you know what I mean? Like he might be the next big guy.”
Rumours have circulated over the past few months that higher-ups backstage in WWE have been considering splitting up the Street Profits and giving Ford a chance to show what he can offer as a solo act. Tensions between the tag partners have even be teased at times on screen but a split has yet to come to fruition.
Montez Ford is set to be in action this Saturday at SummerSlam, teaming with Angelo Dawkins to take on The Usos for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship.
