NFL great Brett Favre is suing WWE personality Pat McAfee, Mississippi Auditor Shad White, and NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe for alleged “defamatory allegations” that the three have made in regard to Farve’s involvement in a welfare scandal.

A spokesperson for Favre told The Daily Mail that Sharpe and McAfee had “tried to further their careers by making baseless defamatory allegations against Brett Favre.”

According to The UK Daily Mail and NBC Sports’ Pro Football Talk, Favre was accused of knowingly stealing $1.1 million in Mississippi welfare funds in exchange for speeches he allegedly never made. Though Farve had returned the $1.1 million, he did not return the $228,000 in interest he made from the payment.

Sharpe had called Favre a “sleazeball” on his FS1 show in September while accusing him of stealing from the poor and McAfee accused Favre of “stealing from the poor people of Mississippi.”

Favre’s lawsuit quoted McAfee as saying “every time his name gets brought up, we have to mention that he tied the hands of the poor people and took money right out of their pockets” and that “Favre is certainly in the middle of stealing from poor people in Mississippi right now.”
