Pat McAfee has discussed the possibility of making a return to WWE and being part of a match at the biggest show of the year – WrestleMania.
McAfee was speaking on 10 Questions With Kyle Brandt when his involvement with wrestling came up. The former NFL star was then asked if competing at WrestleMania was on his radar.
“That’d be dope. That’d be pretty cool. Just like the NFL thing though, now that I’ve gotten a chance to do it. […] I have so much respect for anyone who’s ever wrestled. The amount of work and amount of buy-in to be a successful wrestler, especially to be a WWE WrestleMania guy; that’s a lot.”
“The goal is for people to remember something as epic, but I’m not sure I’m tough enough for a ‘Mania-like run or my schedule could allow me that. But that would obviously be insane if I were at a WrestleMania.”
The 2-time Pro Bowl punter for the Indianapolis Colts began appearing for WWE in 2018. Working as a broadcaster, McAfee would take part in pay-per-view pre-show panels and host watch-along events. In the summer of 2020, McAfee began a feud with Adam Cole. This culminated in a one-on-one match between the two at NXT TakeOver XXX that Cole would win.
The feud continued as McAfee put together a ‘Kings of NXT’ stable with Danny Burch, Oney Lorcan, and Pete Dunne. These four men faced Cole’s Undisputed Era in a War Games match in December. The Undisputed Era would be victorious when Kyle O’Reilly would pin Lorcan.
Pat McAfee has impressed in his short time in wrestling. Despite only taking part in two matches in 2020, he would win the Wrestling Observer’s Rookie Of The Year award.
