Pat McAfee Pays Tribute To Sandman Before SmackDown

With SmackDown taking place in the hometown of ECW, Philadelphia, Pat McAfee took the opportunity to pay tribute to one of the icons of extreme.

While WWE might be synonymous with New York, and WCW with Atlanta, Extreme Championship Wrestling under the leadership of Paul Heyman made its home in the City of Brotherly Love.

With SmackDown emanating from Philadelphia on Friday night, announcer Pat McAfee took the opportunity to pay tribute to ECW original Sandman before the show as he reprised the hardcore icon’s classic entrance.

McAfee entered the arena to the strains of Metallica’s ‘Enter Sandman’ and brought Sandman’s ubiquitous kendo stick with him before unleashing a flurry of shots onto the unsuspecting commentary desk where he broadcast the show with Michael Cole.

After the hard rock interlude, the fans in Philadelphia were treated to a SmackDown which saw The Demon Finn Balor leave The Bloodline lying in his wake ahead of his WWE Universal Championship bout against Roman Reigns at Extreme Rules.

The attack from Balor took place after Roman Reigns had defeated Montez Ford of the Street Profits by submission after choking Ford out with his guillotine. This marked a mixed night for the Ford household as Bianca Belair put Becky Lynch in her place after dropping the WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion with her Kiss Of Death.

Shinsuke Nakamura retained his Intercontinental Championship against Apollo Crews despite interference from Commander Azeez. Zelina Vega picked up her first victory since returning to WWE as she defeated Liv Morgan who faces Carmella at Extreme Rules.

One half of the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Nikki A.S.H defeated former champion Natalya in singles competition. After the match, Tegan Nox and Shotzi Blackheart took aim at the champions as they fired at Nikki A.S.H and Rhea Ripley from Shotzi’s tank.

Riddick Moss returned to SmackDown seemingly aligning with Happy Corbin. Moss took out Kevin Owens after the former WWE Universal Champion had tried to interrupt Corbin’s Happy Talk segment.
