Pat McAfee Claims He Wasn’t Invited To Saudi Arabia For Crown Jewel

WWE SmackDown announcer Pat McAfee has explained why he won’t be part of the upcoming Crown Jewel show in Saudi Arabia.

McAfee now resides at the announce desk on Friday nights alongside WWE stalwart Michael Cole. The two men call the action on the blue brand and for SmackDown matches on pay-per-view but at the upcoming Crown Jewel event, Pat McAfee has said he won’t be there.

Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, the one time ‘King Of NXT’ says he wasn’t invited to go to Saudi Arabia for the show and poked fun at what happened following the last Crown Jewel event in 2019:

“Nope. They’re heading over there. I wasn’t invited. Good luck. I’m not supposed to be part of that, I’m happy I’m not going or whatever. The show, everyone says it’s insane over there. It’s awesome. Until they get stuck there and then I gotta call Buffalo SmackDown.”

Following Crown Jewel on the 31st of October 2019, the crew that was in the Middle East for the show were delayed on their return. Rumours persist to this day as to the cause of the delay with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon alongside a select few others able to make it out of Saudi Arabia on another chartered flight. Most of the WWE Superstars in attendance however were stranded until the next day which meant major changes for SmackDown in Buffalo due to take place on the 1st of November.

With the usual commentary team still stuck in Saudi Arabia, Pat McAfee was one of those that filled in those duties alongside Aiden English, Tom Phillips, and Renee Young. It was a standout night for NXT as the stars of the then-black and gold brand had to take centre stage with some of the stars that hadn’t made the trip.

WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion faced Nikki Cross while current NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa defeated former WWE Champion The Miz. Rhea Ripley and Tegan Nox still of NXT defeated Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose. In the night’s main event NXT Champion Adam Cole successfully defended his title against Daniel Bryan – not the last time these two men shared a spotlight at the end of a much talked about wrestling show.
