Former WWE Superstar Paige has opened up about the last conversation she had with Vince McMahon after being informed her contract will not be renewed.
Following the announcement, the Anti-Diva discussed the situation on a Twitch stream, revealing that the decision not to renew her contract was made by WWE.
After being informed of the decision, Paige sent a text message to Vince McMahon and he confirmed the news. However, the WWE Chairman also said WWE would “keep the door open” for a return in future.
“We’re having a normal conversation and it’s like, ‘So, we’re not gonna renew your contract.’ I texted Vince McMahon, he texted back. Everyone was respectful about it. It’s a bummer. They are keeping the door open, both Vince and Johnny [John Laurinaitis] said they’ll keep the door open, but that’s usually what companies say.”
Paige went on to explain that, if she is ever able to go back to the company, it would be something special.
“I do feel if I ever went back, it would make it more special. If WWE ever asked me to do something, it would be that much more special. There’s nothing I can do, I wish I could stay longer. WWE doesn’t want to re-sign me. It’s not my decision. I don’t want anyone to think it’s my decision to walk away.”
Elsewhere on the stream, the English star spoke about her current health and whether she is likely to get back in the ring again.
Paige is a former two-time WWE Divas Champion and was the inaugural NXT Women’s Champion. She retired from in-ring activity in April 2018 after suffering a career-ending injury the previous December. She remained with the company for some time in roles including SmackDown’s General Manager and the manager of the Kabuki Warriors tag team consisting of Asuka and Kairi Sane.
