With the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament officially kicking off, the family of the late Owen Hart were in attendance at the latest episode of AEW Dynamite.
This week’s AEW Dynamite saw the official beginning of the company’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, with opening round matches including Adam Cole vs. Dax Harwood, Jeff Hardy vs. Darby Allin, and Jamie Hayter vs. Toni Storm. The finals for both the men’s and women’s brackets are slated for Double or Nothing on 29 May.
As AEW celebrated the life and career of the late Owen Hart, Owen’s family were pictured backstage alongside AEW CEO Tony Khan. In attendance were Hart’s widow Dr. Martha Hart, and his children Athena and Oje. Dr. Martha was also shown sitting in the crowd throughout the broadcast.

Following Owen’s passing in May 1999, Martha Hart founded the Owen Hart Foundation as a means of honouring her late husband. The announcement of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, which came in September 2021, marked the first mainstream involvement within the wrestling industry for Owen’s immediate family.
Prior to his tragic passing, Owen Hart was performing as The Blue Blazer, but it’s as ‘The King of Harts’ that he found his biggest success, enjoying seven championship reigns in Vince McMahon’s sports entertainment giant. His stints as WWF Intercontinental Champion were perhaps the height of his career, owing to ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin’s involvement.
Hart is also slated to be a playable character in the impending AEW console video game Fight Forever. This will mark Owen’s first video game appearance since the June 2004 release Showdown: Legends of Wrestling. He’s not featured in a WWE video game since WWF Attitude; this hit shelves in July 1999, two months after Hart’s passing.
