“Our Match with DIY Was The Best Tag Team Match Of This Generation” – FTR

FTR have described their two out of three falls match from NXT Takeover: Toronto against DIY as “The best tag team match of this generation.”

In an interview with Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT, Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler were asked for their thoughts on the Young Bucks vs. Kenny Omega and Hangman Page match from AEW Revolution. As McCarthy discussed, it is currently the highest rated tag team match of all time by Dave Meltzer. Despite this, the reigning AEW tag team champions do not rate it so highly:

“They did some athletic stuff that I could never even dream of, they did some really creative stuff. But, at the end of the day, it is called tag team wrestling. Not just team wrestling, not just four people in the ring wrestling. So yeah, it was great, but not the greatest tag match of all-time by any means.”

The team did, however, have a match in mind for the accolade. Harwood argued that the best tag team match of the generation is FTR (then The Revival) vs. DIY:

“The greatest tag match, at least of this generation, is the two out of three falls match with DIY. You go back and watch that, that’s emotion. That’s creativity. That’s what this business is all about, what it’s built around; it’s built around making a babyface, wanting to watch a babyface overcome an obstacle and overcome the odds, and then at the end of the day that babyface gets his hand raised and everyone’s going home crying. That’s emotion.”

Clearly happy with their work in NXT, Harwood went on to reveal that a return to the brand was suggested. Wheeler elaborated, stating that a return was tempting due to how much the team loved their time in NXT:

“Once we got pulled from all of our dates on the main roster it was down to NXT as the option. And we talked to Hunter at length, there were offers on the table. It was very tempting because we loved NXT, we loved our time there, but at the end of the day, like Dax said, we knew that our time there was done.”

Whether or not FTR’s opinion on the best tag team match of the generation changes after their upcoming dream match against The Young Bucks remains to be seen.
