Otis Talks Teaming With Chad Gable

Otis

Otis sat down with Ryan Satin of Fox Sports this week, and discussed the recent changes in his career, including his latest pairing with Chad Gable.

2020 seemingly started out as the year of Otis. The amateur wrestler turned WWE superstar won the Money In The Bank briefcase, was involved in a romantic storyline with Mandy Rose and was one half of fan favourite team, Heavy Machinery.

Fast forward several months, Otis would lose his Money In The Bank briefcase to The Miz and be split from Rose as well as tag team partner, Tucker.

Following the WWE 2020 draft, which saw Otis remain on SmackDown, Otis would find a new partner in Chad Gable. Gable, a former SmackDown Tag Team Champion is perhaps best known as one half of American Alpha, a team comprised of himself and Jason Jordan.

Speaking of the new pairing with Satin, Otis explained that the pair have actually known each other for quite some time:

“We’ve known each other since… well, I met him in like 2008, but we started knowing each other at the Olympic training centre up there in Colorado Springs. So, we trained together, we’ve always hung out. He’s always wrestled the big guys. He waits until we’re tired, though, to get us. Like, five heavyweights. He comes over and wants a piece of us, and we’d start training together.”

Both men are former Amateur Wrestlers. Both Otis and Gable trained to compete at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, with Gable advancing to the event. The pair would eventually team up on the blue brand after Gable confronted Otis and challenged him to find his ‘Inner Alpha’.

Prior to teaming with Gable, Otis had teamed with Tucker Knight since 2016. Debuting for NXT, the team made their main roster debut on the January 19th episode of Raw. They would remain together until Tucker betrayed Otis at Hell in a Cell, hitting him with his Money in the Bank briefcase.

Speaking of all the recent changes in his career, Otis admits that 2020 has been a tough year, but that teaming with Gable has been a welcome change:

“It’s an opportunity where I had a lot of bad things happen. I got Mandy on RAW, Tucky-Tucky turned on me. He’s on RAW. I’m just a lonely man in a lonely world. 2020’s been a tough year for everybody. It’s been like, when I have a buddy come over. We travel together, we eat together, we get coffee together. He takes me to these fancy coffee shops. I always mess up what I order.

I always say venti, they give me some kind of milk. I got nothing against milk, but I don’t want milk in my coffee. He’s basically like my, I don’t want to say a road wife, but he’s like, “No, order like this. Come on, what are you doing?’ I’m like, “Sorry about that.”
