Otis Celebrates Overcoming Dyslexia To Finish Reading His First-Ever Book

Otis, Heavy Machinery

Currently assigned to the Monday Night Raw brand in WWE, Otis is aligned with Chad Gable in the Alpha Academy pairing. The partnership has brought one set of Raw Tag Team Championships Otis’ way when they bested RK-Bro in January 2022.

Outside of the ring, however, Otis has just accomplished his greatest feat to date. Having been open about his issues with dyslexia in the past, the one-time Mr Money in the Bank took to Instagram to celebrate the conclusion of reading his first book.

In his post, the former Heavy Machinery man thanked his teacher Kimberly Swedberg and WWE for helping him along the process. The book, Stephen King’s Pet Sematary, made Otis appreciative of the book more than the movie adaption, and appears to mark the beginning in his journey the Stephen King collection. He noted that The Shining is next on his list.

Otis Has Been Open About His Dyslexia Issues

Although Otis is more of a quiet individual social media-wise, he has previously discussed the issues he faces on a daily basis due to his dyslexia. Speaking to former WWE ring announcer on her Chasing Glory podcast, he explained how Tucker – his former partner in Heavy Machinery – fully understood his struggles:

“When I first started tagging with Tucky, we’d be on the road. It’s like when you say something and it stings people inside, but they don’t say anything about it. It’s the same where a joke is. Every time I’ve mentioned it, I’ve gotten a giggle and they say, ‘Yeah, me too.’ You just kind of go with it, but don’t tell anybody.

It took me six months to tell Tucky…we got together as a team and didn’t know each other that well but we started becoming friends and getting our work in the ring fine-tuned. I told him, ‘I really can’t read this.’ I remember at finals in college, getting this weird pain in the back of my head, I was getting severe headaches. The doctors said the nerves and tension in the back of my head is high stressed from trying to read.

Tucky fully understands. I can only look at my phone for like a good…my brain starts going, ‘Okay, bro, put it down, take a break.’ My attention is weird, but somehow in wrestling, it comes together.”

Otis last wrestled on the October 31 Monday Night Raw, losing to Matt Riddle in a Trick or Street Fight.

H/T to Fightful.
