Original Plans For AEW Title Match

Two AEW stars were able to have their shot at the Tag Team Championships thanks to the actions of a former champion.

One of the most popular acts in the entire tag team division in 2024, Turbo Floyd and Truth Magnum of The Outrunners have received the loudest reaction on the show multiple times. While The Outrunners have been unable to capture the titles last year, many believe that 2025 will be their time to shine in the division.

At Full Gear 2024, the tag team received an opportunity at the titles in a 4-way match. However, according to a new interview, they were not originally planned to be a part of the match.

Speaking with Bill Pritchard of WrestleZone, FTR’s Dax Harwood stated that he and Cash Wheeler were originally set to be a part of the match but requested that Tony Khan book Turbo Floyd and Truth Magnum for the match instead:

“I was telling you there are some people online who like to say that we latch on right? One of the things, people said, we latched onto The Outrunners because of their popularity. I would beg anybody to ask The Outrunners what they thought of us and how they felt we helped them. Never once….there’s a lot that happens behind the scenes, and you know what? I’ll say it.

For example, at the last pay-per-view, the four-way tag team title match, FTR was supposed to be in one of those spots. I went to Tony and said, ‘Hey man, these guys have worked their ass off. They deserve that spot. Take us out and put them in.’ And he did. He agreed with me.”

In a separate interview, Chris Jericho also put over the tag team and how he knew they would become a success.

AEW Undergoes Multiple Changes

Looking to leave a lasting impression with the first show of the year, the January 1st edition of AEW Dynamite saw numerous presentation changes take place such as better lighting and a new theme song. Additionally, one member of the AEW roster competed under their new name.
