New backstage details have surfaced regarding the controversial promo between Charlotte Flair and Tiffany Stratton on WWE SmackDown, where both women reportedly went off-script and exchanged personal shots.
Speaking on the latest episode of WrestleVotes Radio on Sportskeeda WrestleBinge hosts JoeyVotes and TC revealed what the original plan for the segment was. The promo, which ended with the crowd booing Flair and her mocking Stratton’s voice, was initially intended to head in a very different direction.
According to JoeyVotes, Flair was meant to tell Stratton that comparisons between them were “insulting” to her but “complimentary” to Stratton. Flair was also supposed to claim that Stratton only became Women’s Champion because she had a “ski-lift” in the form of the Money in the Bank briefcase.
Stratton’s scripted response would have seen her question Flair’s absence from WWE, saying something along the lines of, ‘Why have you only had 30 matches in three years?’ She was then set to ask how Flair could still claim to rule a kingdom she had barely been present in since 2024. The promo was supposed to close with Stratton declaring that after WrestleMania 41, Flair would slide back down to the bottom.
However, the actual segment veered sharply off course. JoeyVotes and TC noted that Stratton had likely been warned in advance that Flair might go off-script, which seemingly prepared her to respond in kind.
It appears the WWE Women’s Champion took that advice to heart, standing her ground and firing back when the live exchange turned personal. The rivalry between Flair and Stratton is set to culminate at WrestleMania 41, with emotions now running even higher after their unscripted clash.
What Was The Backstage Reaction To Charlotte Flair And Tiffany Stratton’s Unscripted Promo On SmackDown?
It has been reported that the backstage consensus on the Charlotte Flair and Tiffany Stratton promo on the April 4 episode of SmackDown was that it was considered a “wreck” and that the reaction from most was confusion over Flair mimicking Stratton, and then disbelief when the two started exchanging personal insults that were reportedly not cleared but the company.
