On January 4th it was reported that the Young Bucks were negotiating with All Elite Wrestling over new contracts.
While the details of the discussions were unclear, the report noted that news of the talks had filtered through the locker room. Although the length of the prospective new contracts wasn’t revealed, it was believed that they would see the Jackson brothers remain with AEW for “quite some time.”
Contract Talks Yet To Begin Between The Young Bucks And AEW
However, a further report from Dave Meltzer has claimed that while AEW have contacted the Young Bucks, no negotiations have taken place. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer said that AEW are keen to get the former World Tag Team Champions “locked in” to new deals.
“AEW contacted them and wants to start the negotiations, but there have been no negotiations as of today and they are certainly not close to a deal,”
Meltzer added that the situation is similar to when Chris Jericho penned a new contract with the company back in October. Although the star has time remaining on his existing deal, a new contract was still put in place to extend his stay with the promotion.
Matt and Nick Jackson are two of AEW’s Executive Vice Presidents having helped start the promotion alongside Kenny Omega and Cody Rhodes who now resides in WWE.
The Young Bucks had something of a tumultuous 2022, famously featuring in the backstage brawl which followed All Out. Following the post-show media scrum, the brothers, along with Omega, got into a physical altercation with CM Punk and Ace Steel. Following the incident all involved were suspended, but the majority have since returned to work.
While The Bucks and Omega returned to action at Full Gear to take on Death Triangle, Ace Steel has left AEW and CM Punk remains on the side-lines. Although Punk’s triceps injury means he wouldn’t be able to wrestle regardless, it is widely expected that he will never appear in AEW again.
The Elite are currently in the midst of a ‘Best of Seven’ series with Death Triangle with the score tied at 3-3. The final bout is set to be a Escalera de la Muerte (ladder) match, on the January 11th episode of Dynamite.
