Seth Rollins has put Barry Horowitz to shame by naming one of his own recent matches as “one of the greatest matches of all time.”
Seth Rollins spent much of the first of 2022 locked in a feud with a man who wasn’t even part of WWE at the beginning of the year.
At WrestleMania 38 Vince McMahon granted Rollins a match but did not let the former WWE Champion know who he’d be facing. There were shocked faces aplenty when former AEW star Cody Rhodes emerged as Rollins’ mystery opponent.
That led to two more epic clashes between Rhodes and Rollins, but their third meeting at Hell In A Cell almost didn’t happen due to an injury suffered by Rhodes. The American Nightmare tore his pectoral muscle but competed anyway drawing stunned silence when he unrobed to reveal his heavily bruised chest before the bell rang.
Speaking to Denise Salcedo at the WrestleMania 39 launch party, Seth Rollins reflected on the match and says it’s one of the best ever:
“It was hard for them [fans] to process. Even when he took the jacket off people were thinking ‘is this real, is this really going to happen?’ And then we proceeded to have one of the greatest matches of all time. My hats off to Cody Rhodes, I do think he owes me one though.”
Seth Rollins also commented on Cody Rhodes choosing to return to WWE after leaving the company in 2016 and forging a path that included helping form All Elite Wrestling:
“I think he’s got some unfinished business here. I think that is part of why he left to begin with. He wanted to make himself a new man and do it on his own, and he did that. To his credit, he went out and did his own thing. He grinded and made his way back to WWE, and now you know, well he’s on the shelf right now [laughs]. He’s on his way back, who knows what could happen in the future.”
