Oba Femi Makes WWE History With NXT North American Title Reign

Oba Femi on WWE NXT holding the NXT North American Championship

NXT North American Champion Oba Femi has officially made WWE history!

Oba Femi is no stranger to first-ever accomplishments in WWE, making history by becoming the first WWE Next In Line graduate to win a championship. The 26-year-old did so when he won the NXT North American Championship from Dragon Lee back in January.

Since then, Femi has been on a dominant streak with the belt with successful defences over the likes of Dijak, Ivar, Wes Lee and Tony D’Angelo. Now, he has added yet another historic accolade to his already impressive championship reign.

As of today, October 5th 2024, Oba Femi has held the NXT North American Championship for 270 days. This officially makes him the longest-reigning holder of the belt in history, overtaking Wes Lee’s 269-day reign from October 2022 to July 2023.

Femi is also on track to beat the record for the longest combined reign with the belt through his single reign alone. On October 8th, he’ll reach 273 days with the title and overtake Carmelo Hayes’ record-setting 272-day combined reign across his two runs with the belt.

Booker T Recently Compared Oba Femi To The Legendary Goldberg

During a recent edition of his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T had high praise for the current NXT North American Champion. The two-time WWE Hall of Famer even went on to compare him to a legendary figure in the business: Goldberg.

Booker believes Femi’s rise in NXT has had a similar trajectory to Goldberg’s in WCW. However, the key difference he sees is that Femi has had far more time to flesh out his in-ring work compared to his fellow Hall of Famer.

In other news, the WWE NXT Year End Award nominees have been announced.
