NXT Superstar Oba Femi does not see much in the comparisons with Brock Lesnar aside from the “superficial” aspects.
The current NXT Champion, Femi, has been signed to WWE since December 2021. The Nigerian has made a significant impact within this short period, having already achieved an incredible feat — his 273-day NXT North American Championship reign being the longest among any of the title holders to date. As for Lesnar, it seems he has quietly retired from professional wrestling, having last fought Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam 2023.
The Beast Incarnate brought a sense of uniqueness and authenticity to his in-ring performances, largely thanks to his UFC background. He and Femi are often compared these days by WWE fans, but the NXT Champion feels those who compare do not know him very well. Femi believes the on-screen characters are very different.
Oba Femi Shuts Down Comparisons With WWE’s Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar
On Reality of Wrestling, Femi was asked to share his thoughts on him and Lesnar being cited as two peas in a pod.
The former shot putter shrugged off the notion that he and The Beast were similar in some form or fashion, aside from their build and similar capacity to move fast in the ring. However, Femi also admitted that he had taken some inspiration from the ex-UFC mauler in the way he works:
But I don’t think there is a one-to-one correlation between Brock Lesnar and I. The athleticism and strength is there. But I think Oba Femi is a beast of its own. Personally, I don’t think anybody moves, talks, or walks like Oba Femi. I think Oba Femi is a very unique experience. The people who draw the most correlation between Lesnar and Femi are the people who have not seen a lot of Femi.
So they look at the superficial stuff — the build, the speed; the exterior. But like I said, when you know the character of The Ruler, The Destroyer, The Bringer of War, you will understand that that is a unique experience that the WWE Universe has not seen before. Oba Femi is one of one, and I just wanted to make that clear.”
Femi has remained NXT Champion since January 2025. It remains to be seen when WWE decides to pull the trigger and call up the impressive Nigerian athlete to the main roster.
Meanwhile, Lesnar’s potential return to the ring is often talked about among fans, but the reality of the situation remains unclear.
