Nyla Rose has booked her place in the final of the AEW Women’s Championship Eliminator Tournament by defeating Thunder Rosa.
Airing on YouTube the finals of the United States half of the bracket saw Rose face off against former NWA Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa. In a back and forth match, Rose gained the upper hand by catching Rosa in mid-air and planting her with her patented beast bomb for the victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Nyla Rose, herself a former AEW Women’s Champion, defeated Tay Conti in the opening round. Rose would then defeat Dr. Britt Baker DMD to qualify for the finals match against Thunder Rosa.
Rose will now face Ryo Mizunami in the final of the tournament on the March 3rd edition of AEW Dynamite. Mizunami defeated early fan favourite Maki Itoh in the first round of the Japanese half of the draw. Mizunami would then beat wrestling legend Aja Kong before defeating Yuka Sakazaki in the Japanese final.
Ryo Mizunami has competed in AEW before. She was part of the six-woman tag team match at Double Or Nothing 2019. The team of Ryo Mizunami, Riho and current AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida would defeat Emi Sakura, Aja Kong Sakazaki at the event.
Nyla Rose won her only AEW Women’s Championship so far on the February 12th 2020 episode of AEW Dynamite. She would defeat inaugural champion Riho to begin her 101-day reign as champion. Rose would lose the title at Double Or Nothing 2020 to current champion Hikaru Shida. Shida has become the longest-reigning AEW Women’s Champion, holding the title for 279 days so far.
The winner of Mizunami and Rose will face Shida for the title at AEW Revolution on Sunday, March 7th. The 3rd of March episode of AEW Dynamite is jam-packed. In addition to the tournament finals, Shaquille O’Neal will make his highly anticipated AEW debut. The NBA legend will team with Jade Cargill to face Cody Rhodes and Red Velvet. WWE Hall of Famer Tully Blanchard will compete in his first wrestling match in 14 years when he teams with FTR to take on Jurassic Express.
