NXT UK Champion WALTER and the number one contender Ilja Dragunov will sign on the dotted line next week for their championship match, as announced by Assistant General Manager, Sid Scala, on WWE’s digital platforms.
Dragunov earned his championship opportunity by winning a 20-man Battle Royal back in March, right before the show went on a hiatus due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
WALTER has been in Dragunov’s position before, however. In February 2019, he stood toe-to-toe with then-WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne ahead of their match at NXT TakeOver: New York – where the Austrian dethroned the all-dominant Brit to take over the brand.
Dragunov handed the NXT UK Champion his first pinfall loss on NXT UK this week as the Russian teamed with a returning Pete Dunne to take on the ‘Ring General’ and Imperium’s Alexander Wolfe in a very hard-hitting main event.
WALTER’s first NXT UK Championship defence since defeating Dave Mastiff on the March 5 edition of NXT UK will take place on the October 28 edition of the British brand.
This week’s episode also saw Dave Mastiff defeat Joseph Conners to advance in the Heritage Cup tournament, as well as a standout match between compatriots Piper Niven and Isla Dawn.
