NXT TakeOver: In Your House may not be the last TakeOver of the summer with new reports suggesting there could be one during SummerSlam weekend.
Andrew Zarian of The Mat Men podcast was first to note that another NXT TakeOver was in the works for later this summer. NXT TakeOver: In Your House takes place on Sunday, June 13th with a stacked card. The main event of which will see the NXT Championship defended in a Fatal Five-Way match between champion Karrion Kross, Pete Dunne, Kyle O’Reilly, Johnny Gargano, and Adam Cole.
Fightful Select then reported that they have confirmed another NXT TakeOver show is set to take place this summer. They understand that the working plan right now will be to have that show on SummerSlam weekend. This is interesting because this year’s SummerSlam event is set to be held on a Saturday rather than the WWE’s traditional pay-per-view day of Sunday. This means any TakeOver on that weekend would take place on the day after SummerSlam on Sunday, 22nd of August.
Fightful also included in their report that the WWE’s plan as of now is not to have NXT TakeOver take place in the same city as SummerSlam. Previous TakeOvers have been linked to the SummerSlam venue, particularly the NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn series that took place in the Barclay’s Center, the same venue as ‘The Biggest Party Of The Summer’ over four years.
Instead the company plan to hold the NXT TakeOver at the Capitol Wrestling Center based at the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. This is reportedly to give the company flexibility should they decide to hold the event elsewhere.
SummerSlam will be held in the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Reports circulating also suggest WWE are pulling out all the stops to make SummerSlam ‘this year’s WrestleMania.’ The rumoured planned main event has also seemingly been confirmed, if true it would see one of the greatest of all time return to a WWE ring.
