As one British star leaves AEW, another has stepped through the All Elite Wrestling door for the very first time.
Ahead of the December 7th edition of AEW Dynamite Tony Khan confirmed that William Regal is leaving the company to head back to WWE. His departure was later addressed on television and in storyline, in a pre-taped interview where he explained turning his back on Jon Moxley, as well as reiterating that he’s “Blackpool Combat Club until I die.”
Former NXT Star Challenges Orange Cassidy On AEW Rampage
However, as Regal stepped away a staple of the British wrestling scene made their AEW debut just hours later.
On Dynamite Orange Cassidy was featured in a backstage segment with Kip Sabian, which ended with the latter promising to bring someone to challenge Cassidy on Rampage. That someone turned out to be former NXT Tag Team Champion Trent Seven.
At the taping, Cassidy defeated Seven to retain his All-Atlantic Championship as The Butcher, The Blade and The Bunny brawled with Best Friends at ringside. After the match Cassidy was attacked by Seven, Sabian and Penelope Ford before Dustin Rhodes ran in to make the save.
Trent Seven first appeared in WWE in early 2017 when he featured in a tournament to crown the first-ever NXT United Kingdom Champion. The star later appeared in both NXT and NXT UK, finding success alongside Tyler Bate as Moustache Mountain.
Bate and Seven went on to win the NXT and NXT UK Tag Team Championships. Following the announcement that NXT UK would be closed down in August 2022, Trent Seven was released by the company.
